An Open Letter to the NWC All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR

There are moments in politics when a party must ask itself a simple but uncomfortable question: What does this moment truly require?

Kwara APC is approaching such a moment.

The challenge before the party is not about zoning, sentiment or preserving old political calculations, the challenge is leadership.

The difficult task of maintaining unity while preparing for the future. What APC needs now is not another compromise candidate. It needs a leader who can command respect across factions, restore confidence among party faithful and reconnect the party with the wider electorate.

This is why the conversation around Engr. Femi Sanni (ARABA) deserves serious attention.

For some, the first question is: “But he is a Christian.”

The more important question should be: “Can he lead APC through this moment?”

The answer many party members are increasingly arriving at is YES.

Engr. Femi Sanni is not a newcomer seeking relevance. He is a founding member of the party structure in Kwara, a man whose loyalty to the APC was established long before it became fashionable. He understands the party’s history, its sacrifices, its victories and its wounds. In a period when APC needs healing as much as it needs winning, that experience matters.

Kwara South, the region he comes from, has also waited patiently for another opportunity to produce the state’s governor. Recognizing that aspiration is not merely a regional concession; it is a strategic decision that can strengthen the party’s internal cohesion and demonstrate fairness within the APC family.

More importantly, Engr. Femi Sanni possesses something that cannot be manufactured during a campaign: broad acceptability.

He is seen by many as a bridge-builder rather than a factional warrior. He has relationships across political blocs and across religious and social divides.
At a time when APC needs to consolidate its base while expanding its appeal, a unifying figure becomes an asset of immense value.

Kwara has long been admired as a state where Muslims and Christians coexist peacefully. The emergence of a Christian APC candidate would definitely not represent a departure from Kwara’s identity; rather, would reinforce the state’s tradition of inclusion and mutual respect. With the right running mate from, the ticket would reflect both competence and balance, preserving cultural expectations while projecting unity.

The political reality is also worth considering. APC remains a dominant force in Kwara State, with a strong structure and a significant electoral advantage. The party is not approaching this election from a position of weakness. That strength creates room for bold decisions that prioritize leadership quality, party unity and statewide acceptability.

What does APC stand to gain?

A candidate with deep roots in the party.

A leader capable of calming internal tensions.

Greater inclusion across regions and communities.

A message of confidence, fairness, and renewal.

An opportunity to present Kwara as a state defined by unity rather than division.

What does the party stand to lose? Very little that it does not already risk losing through continued internal fragmentation.

The coming election will not be won by symbolism alone. It will be won by organization, credibility, trust and the ability to inspire both party members and ordinary citizens. APC needs someone who can hold the house together while leading it forward.

To President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the NWC: Kwara does not merely need a candidate. Kwara needs a stabilizer, a unifier and a dependable leader capable of carrying the party through this delicate period into a stronger future.

If leadership is truly the priority, then the conversation should not end at identity.

It should begin with capacity.

And that is why many believe Engr. Femi Sanni (ARABA) is the right candidate.
