    Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has observed Iftar (breaking of fast) with Kwarans currently performing the Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, reinforcing his close ties with the people of the state.

    In a statement released in Ilorin on Tuesday, the governor said the gathering was attended by state and federal lawmakers, cabinet members, and other dignitaries from Kwara.

    “Tonight in Saudi Arabia, I was joined at an Iftar by some fellow Kwarans who are performing the Lesser Hajj. It was attended by state and federal lawmakers, cabinet members, and other dignitaries, including House of Representatives members Hon. Raheem Olawuyi Ajuloopin (Ekiti/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency) and Hon. Mukhtar Tolani Shagaya (Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency); Hon. Maryam Yusuf Aladi; Senior Adviser and Counsellor Alhaji Saadu Salau; Commissioner for Works Engr. AbdulQuawiy Olododo; former Minister Jamila Bio; Ambassador Yahya Seriki; and former House of Representatives candidate Abdulsalam Abdulkadir,” the statement read.

    The governor emphasized the significance of the holy month and extended prayers for the state and the country.

    “We pray that Allah accepts our Ibaadah and prayers for our state, Kwara, and our country, Nigeria. We also ask Allah to bless us with the Night of Majesty (Laylatul-Qadr),” he added.

    It warned that fulfilling the Ministry of Social Development’s crèche registration requirements is mandatory, emphasizing that non-compliance could lead to sanctions, including the risk of closure.

    The Commissioner for Social Development, Mariam Nnafatima Imam, issued the directive during an inspection of private crèches in Offa and Ijagbo towns in the Kwara South Senatorial District. She reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring safe, nurturing, and regulated early childhood care facilities.

    Imam urged all schools operating crèches in the state to expedite their registration processes with the Ministry of Social Development. She stressed that proper registration would provide the government with up-to-date data on crèches, enhance monitoring efforts, and support improved service delivery for children.

    The Commissioner reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to early childhood care, underscoring the importance of meeting regulatory standards to protect and nurture young children. She called on crèche operators yet to complete their registration to do so promptly to avoid disruptions to their services.

    Additionally, Imam encouraged parents and guardians to support the government’s efforts by patronizing only registered crèches that adhere to the state’s guidelines. She noted that choosing accredited facilities would help ensure children receive the best possible care and early education.

    Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Ilorin on Tuesday, AbdulRazaq described the initiative as a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in alleviating hardship and supporting vulnerable communities. Represented by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, he commended the Dangote Foundation for its generous and selfless contribution.

    During a working visit to HHL Insurance Brokers Limited, a state-owned insurance company, the General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency (KWPPA), QS Raheem Abdulbaki, highlighted the agency’s dedication to promoting local content and driving economic growth across the state.

    “The framework we have in place ensures that Kwarans benefit from every contract awarded in the state, leading to appreciable financial and technical returns. This, in turn, boosts internally generated revenue and enhances employment opportunities,” Abdulbaki stated.

    He credited Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) for his unwavering support, which has significantly contributed to the agency’s achievements. Abdulbaki also announced a major policy shift, revealing that the ₦10 million cap on insurance bonds accessible within the state has been removed.

    “His Excellency understands that for local businesses to thrive, access to funding must be free from unnecessary bottlenecks,” he added.

    The Acting Managing Director of HHL Insurance Brokers Limited, Mallam Shaaba Taofeeq, welcomed the visit, describing it as timely. He reaffirmed the company’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to achieve the government’s objectives.

    Acknowledging past challenges that had hindered the company’s growth, Taofeeq appealed for KWPPA’s continued support. He assured the state government that HHL Insurance Brokers Limited has the capacity to manage all insurance obligations within Kwara State and beyond.

    “This renewed drive for local content implementation will undoubtedly stimulate economic growth across the state,” he said.

    Supplementary Screening Scheduled to Address Subject and Local Government Gaps

    The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has invited 180 additional applicants who participated in its computer-based test (CBT) for a makeup interview as part of the final stage of its teacher recruitment exercise. The makeup interview is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at the TESCOM headquarters in Ilorin.

    According to the TESCOM Chairman, the makeup exercise was initiated to address gaps in certain subject areas and across 15 local government areas, excluding Ilorin West. The affected subjects include Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, Christian Studies, History, Physics, Geography, French, Yoruba, and Commerce.

    “This is a makeup exercise which affects all but Ilorin West Local Government Area. Our analysis shows that some local governments have shortfalls in a few subject areas, and we need to screen some of the applicants who meet the basic requirements from the CBT to take up their slots. It is basically about marrying merit, equity, and realities for the overall benefit of the state,” the chairman stated.

    He explained that the invited candidates were selected under special considerations to fill vacant slots in their respective local government areas without compromising due process and competence. Some of the invitees had scored between 45 and 59 in the CBT, below the initial cutoff mark of 60, while others scored 60 and above but were either above 35 years of age or held third-class degrees in relevant subjects. The initial criteria had prioritized first and second-class degree holders.

    The 180 invitees are spread across different local government areas, with some of the highest numbers coming from Kaiama, Ekiti, Baruten, and Oke Ero, while Asa, Ifelodun, and Ilorin East have fewer invitees. Ilorin West remains unaffected by the exercise. TESCOM emphasized that the process remains committed to transparency and fairness, ensuring that all eligible candidates are given the opportunity to contribute to the state’s education sector.
