Kwara Governor Swears in New Commissioners, Reshuffles Cabinet

…Kawu, Arinde, Toyosi, Sabi Assigned New Portfolios

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday inaugurated Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe and Dr. Maryam Nnafatima Imam as commissioners, urging them to be team players and contribute meaningfully to the administration’s development agenda across various sectors.

Their swearing-in led to a cabinet reshuffle, with Olohungbebe taking over the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, while Nnafatima Imam now heads the Ministry of Social Development.

Other portfolio adjustments include Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu’s move to the Ministry of Tertiary Education, while Dr. Mary Arinde now leads the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi has been appointed as Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Transportation, and Olohuntoyosi Thomas Adebayo, formerly in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, is now overseeing the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.

Dr. Afeez Abolore, who previously held the position of Commissioner for Solid Minerals, replaces Olohuntoyosi in Agriculture and Rural Development, while Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, formerly of the Ministry of Social Development, takes over as Commissioner for Solid Minerals.

Addressing the newly appointed commissioners, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of teamwork and public service, urging them to build on the administration’s achievements.

“Today marks not just the beginning of a new chapter for the commissioners-designate but, expectedly, a renewed commitment to serving the people of Kwara State with dedication, integrity, and vision,” he stated.

The governor highlighted the administration’s progress in public education, primary healthcare, rural and urban development, infrastructure, social protection, and wealth redistribution. He encouraged the new commissioners to embrace innovation, connect with the people, and exercise prudence in decision-making.

“I congratulate you once again and wish you God’s guidance in the service of our state,” he added.

Governor AbdulRazaq noted that the newly appointed commissioners had earned their positions through prior service as Senior Special Assistants, describing their elevation as well deserved. The cabinet adjustments, he said, align with his administration’s strategy to enhance governance and service delivery across the state.

The new commissioners are expected to assume their roles immediately as the government intensifies efforts to drive sustainable development in Kwara State.
